All You Need To Know About The Cyclone Phailin: Disaster Management, Helplines And More!

The Eastern coast of India is all braced up to face the wrath of the Cyclone Phailin, a category 4 cyclone fast approaching the country. Approaching at a staggering speed of 210 km/h, it is a disaster of colossal magnitude, and panic has gripped the coast despite adequate preparations by the National Disaster Relief Force. Phailin literally means “sapphire” in Thai and was named by Thailand.
Phailim
Over half a million people from Odisha have been evacuated, and it is India’s biggest evacuation operation in 23 years. The Indian Meteorological Department in New Delhi assures that there are sufficient provisions for food, water and power supply in the states where the cyclone is all set to hit. Panic buying of rations was reported; alarmed, the people are all set to be better prepared this time than they were fourteen years back. The cyclone is being closely monitored and frequent updates on Phailin’s speed, location and intensity are being given out through various media, like television, radio and internet. Right now, the weather in Odisha is stormy and rainfalls of up to 50-60cm are expected.
The October of 1999 was the last time such a cyclone of colossal magnitude arrived in India. That cyclone was called Paradwip Cyclone or Cyclone 05B; it hit with a speed of 250 km/h and caused the death of approximately 10,000 people. It was a category 5 cyclone. It’s that time of test again, when nature is all set to unleash her wrath upon us. The time of landfall is expected to be at around 6pm to 8pm today, and is fast approaching the terrestrial area.
As the Cyclone approaches, the people of Jagatsinghpur district in Odisha have a special cause of worry. Around 1.7 laks trees were felled and casuarina, cashew trees and betel vines were removed from villages around the area close to the shores, to make way for the POSCO steel plant about two years ago. Casuarinas are evergreen shrubs and trees that grow up to 35m tall, they are highly tolerant of cyclones and are often planted as windbreaks. They acted as natural barriers against strong winds, tidal waves and cyclonic storms. The Odisha government is responsible for the loss of green cover that could have minimized the damage done in the villages surrounding these areas.
A part of disaster management by Google was the voluntary initiative of launching the “People Finder”. The search engine giant has voluntarily come up with the initiative of collecting information regarding people stuck in the disaster affected areas, so that it helps the officials with the data regarding the victims and tracking the magnitude of the damage caused by the Cyclone Phailin. Google is also collaborating with Airtel, to send a mass SMS blast to all the people in the disaster estimated areas informing them when the cyclone hits. Emergency numbers are circulated virally online, and it is suggested that everyone do so in order to spread the word to encourage minimal loss and maximum preparedness. The number one can resort to, for Odisha’s State Emergency Operation Centre is 0674-2534177. Click here for more helpline numbers of Emergency Centres in Odisha .
A few guidelines for alertness in this time of crisis will be closely monitoring TV and radio for more information. Also, to avoid the spread of false reports that induce unnecessary panic, one should first and foremost rely on official information primarily. Stocking necessary chucks – for instance, dry, storable, edible food and plenty of clean water should be a priority. Items like radio and torch, batteries, and medicines should also be included in the management kit. People in low lying areas near the beaches or coasts should abandon such places immediately and move away. When asked to evacuate, people in the affected areas should make sure to not delay and get on the move as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, as the people in eastern coast, such as Andhra Pradesh and Odisha gear up for their battle against Mother Nature’s wrath, people all over India unite to contribute willingly for relief funds. Beware of appeals that intend to profit rather than aid. You can contribute to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for Andhra Pradesh, and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for Odisha in order to help those in need and mitigate the impact and the impairment Phailin is all set to bring with herself.

‘NEW ZEALAND WILL WIN THE MATCH. AZHAR WILL BE RUN OUT’

Tehelka was the first to blow the lid off the match-fixing scandal involving indian cricketers. Excerpts from Fallen Heroes, of an explosive chat between Manoj Prabhakar and the then BCCI secretary Jayawant Lele

Prabhakar: I’m totally depressed. Sir, I am not against anyone. I don’t know what I shall do, and what…to reveal it.
Lele: Even we don’t know what the brief of cbi is for this investigation. Actually, what we thought…what we thought, that the government will institute a separate court. Special court. What happens in a special court? There are eight judges. You go and depose before them. Then in the worst case, woh sabko reham karenge (they will acquit everyone). See, I can tell you…
Prabhakar: You know the person…
Lele: You and I know the person. Now, I’m telling you one-to-one. In this team, the only top person is Sachin. Now, I will tell you something. This is a fact, 200 percent. I was told about this the moment it happened. This is related to the India versus New Zealand match in Sri Lanka. In Sri Lanka. The other day at night, 6:30 or so, Anshuman (Gaekwad) received a phone call…said, “You are losing tomorrow. New Zealand will win the match. Jadeja and Azhar will be run out.”
‘If there are any people involved, if there are any black sheep among them, there are only three names — Azhar, Jadeja and Kapil’
Prabhakar: Where was that? In Sri Lanka?
Lele: New Zealand versus India. It was a qualifying match.
Prabhakar: Which was the other team?
Lele: Sri Lanka. Then he (Gaekwad) couldn’t believe his ears. He said, “What are you talking? We’ve beaten New Zealand once. There is no question about our losing. We’ll beat them hands down.” He (the caller) said, “No, I’m telling you it’s a fact. You want to be a part to it?” Anshuman thought for a while, then he abused him and put the phone down. He sensed something…he smelled something amiss. At 2 o’clock in the night, this was at 12 in the night, he was not able to sleep. So at 2 o’clock at night, he went to Sachin’s room. “Sachin, aisa aisa hai, phone aaya tha…bolo toh, kaisa lagta hai (I got this phone call and what do you feel)? It’s up to you now. You are going to open the innings.” He said, “I will snatch an Indian victory.” You will not believe, whatever was decided, same thing happened next day. Azharuddin was run out. Jadeja was run out. But Sachin was playing. He saw to it that India won the game. And we reached the final.
The final was against Sri Lanka. We have never ever won a match against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. At night, again the same person phoned. He said, “I don’t know what happened yesterday…means two days back…but you won the game. But tomorrow India is definitely not going to win. Sri Lanka are going to be the champions.” Anshuman again went to Sachin. Told him the same thing. And we won again. Two consecutive matches.
Prabhakar: Only man. All alone?
Lele: Woh akela hi hai (Sachin is all alone). All this you are telling openly. Mere paas koi proof nahin hai. Main kya boloon ki black sheep kaun hai (I don’t have any proof, what will I say who is the black sheep)?
Each and every person who is top (sic) in the board is aware. Agar isme se koi phasne walle honge, agar koi black sheep hai, to teen hi naam hai (If there are some people involved, if there are any black sheep among them, there are only three names) — Azhar, Jadeja and Kapil.
Prabhakar: Azhar…
Lele: Jadeja and Kapil Dev. What is Jadeja, (SIC) is all Kapil.
Prabhakar: Sir, everybody knows, sir.
Lele: How else would I give you the names? But I don’t have any proof. I don’t have any proof. I don’t even have the hearsay….
Prabhakar: That’s why I am suffering.
Lele: Who’s doing it, everybody knows. Nobody can speak out. Do you mean to say Mr Dalmiya does not know?

Dangerous bottled water in your CAR

DANGER!!!!

LET EVERYONE WHO HAS A WIFE/GIRLFRIEND/ DAUGHTER/ FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES.

KNOW PLEASE!
Bottled water in your car is very dangerous!
On the Ellen show, Sheryl Crow said that this is what caused her
breast cancer. It has been identified as the most common cause
of the high levels of dioxin in breast cancer tissue..

Sheryl Crow’s oncologist told her: women should not drink bottled water that has been left in a car. The heat reacts with the chemicals in the plastic of the bottle which releases dioxin into the water. Dioxin is a toxin increasingly found in breast cancer tissue. So please be careful and do not drink bottled water that has been left in a car.

Pass this on to all the women in your life. This information is the kind
we need to know that just might save us! Use a stainless steel canteen
or a glass bottle instead of plastic!

This information is also being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical
Center … No plastic containers in microwaves. No plastic water
bottles in freezers. No plastic wrap in microwaves.

Dioxin chemical causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to cells in our bodies. Don’t freeze plastic bottles with water
in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently the Wellness
Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain
this health hazard.

He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we
should not be heating food in the microwave using plastic containers…..
This especially applies to foods that contain fat.

He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastic releases dioxin
into the food.

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Pyrex or ceramiccontainers
for heating food… You get the same result, but without the dioxin.. So,
such things as TV dinners, instant soups, etc., should be removed from
their containers and heated in something else.

Paper isn’t bad but you don’t know what is in the paper. It’s safer to
use tempered glass, such as Pyrex, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants
moved away from the styrene foam containers to paper. The dioxin
problem is one of the reasons….

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Cling film, is just as
dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave.
As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually
melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with
a paper towel instead.

School girl Remya awesome invention: Washing + Exercise Machine | Works without Electricity

Indian high school girl Remya awesome invention: Washing + Exercise Machine

Remya, a high school girl from Kerala was forced to do laundry when her mother fell sick. Out of her dislike to wash clothes by hand, Remya invented a pedal-powered washing machine at the age of 14.
school girl Remya awesome invention: Washing + Exercise Machine Works without Electricity

The machine, which looks like the exercise-cycle which we see in a gymnasium, consists of an aluminium cabin containing a horizontal cylinder made of iron net. The cylinder is connected to a pedaling system that consists of a cycle chain, pedals and a seat. Clothes are put in the cylinder, the cabin is filled with water, detergent is added and is left to soak for some time. Pedal it for three to four minutes after that and you are done! The cylinder rotates at a very high speed with the clothes inside, cleaning them thoroughly. Soap water drains out, the barrel is refilled and the process repeated. By pedaling, the clothes also become about 80% dry. The Invention has many advantages. It doesn't require electricity to work, it is hugely affordable and moreover, it replaces your exercise machine.

Here is the Video Demonstration on how it works

A Useful Tip For Car Owners

It is a fantastic idea for those who can't afford car insurance or Tracker System. I'm forwarding this to all my friends.

How to Get Back Your Stolen Car?
It takes only 2 minutes for a car thief to runaway with your car. No matter you have a trekker and auto-alarming devices fitted in your car.

The best safety for your car is a live and active Mobile Phone hidden in a safe place in your car:

1. Buy any low price mobile phone with longer standby time.

2. Install a mobile connection which has best network in the country.

3. Turn this mobile on complete SILENT mode (double check it should not vibrate while you turn it on SILENT mode).

4. Wrap it up slightly in a plastic sheet so that it should not get dirty and dusty during its hidden use.

5. Make sure it is perfectly responding by calling its number from another mobile phone.

6. Hide this mobile in a safe place in your car. And that’s it…!!!

If your car is stolen, immediately inform your local Police Help Line 100. Give them phone number of the mobile hidden in your car. Police can easily track the location by calling that number. Chances are that you may get back your car within the shortest possible time.

And finally do not forget to charge this mobile at least twice a week and hide it back in your car in active position.

Please share this message with all your friends.

Good luck. If you get back your car this way, do remember me in your prayers!
